I found Dr. Walls after I had already seen 3 other orthopedic doctors who “specialize in feet” and left feeling nothing but deflated and defeated by their lack of everything. None of these "professionals" with fancy medical degrees knew any more about what was wrong with my foot than I did. It was then that I listened to my gut and did my own psychotic amount of research in an effort to diagnose myself because I wasn’t willing to accept their poor recommendations that did nothing to improve the quality of function in my feet.
I can’t remember how exactly I found him, but I knew that Dr. Walls was different the moment I walked into his office and he confirmed for me what I had gathered was the problem based on all of my desperate -to-feel-better research. He didn’t waver at all in his diagnosis and he told me exactly what I didn’t want to hear. I needed surgery. I had been living comfortably with two very advanced bunions for years. However, a tear on my plantar plate had resulted in the dislocation of my second toe. Life at the time with a baby had only afforded me the opportunity to surgically take care of just the tear and the dislocation. I had that surgery at Yale. It’s been 4 years since then and I have continued to return to Dr. Walls and I now make the trip from Connecticut to NYC or Staten Island to see him. Since then, he has performed my two bunion surgeries, both of which were fantastic. And I will continue to only see him in the future. I am happy to report that after 3 surgeries, I have fully functioning feet.
Dr. Walls is truly an unparalleled expert in his field. Not only is he incredibly brilliant, but I completely trust him. It took me a bit to find him, but the best lesson I’ve learned in finding him is that not all doctors are created equal. He is an absolute stand out. It's so important to listen to your body and take it seriously. These are my feet. I wanted to make sure I could walk comfortably forever. And thankfully, 3 very successful surgeries later, I will walk comfortably forever. All thanks to him.
